Salary 26,610 29,566 (Band D) / 33,780 37,534 (Band E)

A Grade D/E Database Developer post exists within the James Hutton Institute that has an overall goal of the design, development and deployment of a data warehouse to support high throughput genotype data sets as well as trait and passport data from CIMMYT in Mexico and their integration with analysis and visualization applications. The post holder will also be involved in thedevelopment of a web portal and will work as part of a larger team in the UK, Mexico and Australia, funded through the Mexican Government MASAGRO Seeds of Discovery (SeeD) project

Candidates should have a strong computer science or bioinformatics background with extensive experience in database development, ideally in a genetics/bioinformatics environment. Strong relational database skills and experience, ideally in MySQL, are required. Experience in web and/or R development is an advantage. For appointment at the higher grade candidates should have proven project management/collaboration experience. Successful candidates must be prepared to travel to meet with project collaborators in Mexico, Australia and the USA.

Consideration will be given both to experienced candidates (for the Band E) or recent graduates who can demonstrate exceptional potential (for the Band D).

Although primarily based in Aberdeen there may be a requirement to travel between the main James Hutton Institute sites on a regular basis.
